Oxybenzone and octinoxate are two chemicals commonly found in sunscreens and research suggests they are harmful to coral reefs, which support our marine ecosystem and diverse sea life. Because we care about our planet, we decided to remove them from our formulas!

This act also bans the sale of non-prescription sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate, which took effect on January 1, 2021. Some islands have also prohibited entry with “non-compliant” mineral sunscreen, so if you’re traveling to Hawaii, be sure to bring our mineral PoolBar sun care.

To date, there are no mandatory testing requirements or FDA regulations to enforce a ban on these chemicals in sunscreens. However, we are very proud we made the decision to remove them anyway and tell you about it, so you can make the right informed decision for you and your family when choosing your sun care.

You may be aware of the claim 'Reef Safe,' which means these two chemicals have also been removed from certain sunscreens. However, we have chosen not to make this claim directly on our products, as it hasn’t been conclusively proven yet, and we do not want to mislead you.
