Why Broad Spectrum Protection Matters

The UV spectrum hits skin from two angles. UVB rays cause sunburn. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the dermis, and are responsible for around 90% of visible skin aging, including collagen breakdown, fine lines, and long-term cellular damage.

Broad spectrum sunscreen covers both. Every PoolBar formula carries a broad spectrum rating, tested and confirmed to protect against the full UVA and UVB range.

UV exposure does not stop at the beach. Up to 80% of UV rays pass through cloud cover, and UVA penetrates glass, meaning everyday indoor and overcast exposure still counts.

Broad spectrum protection is the right choice every single day, not just in summer.

Two Formulas, One Standard

PoolBar offers two types of broad spectrum sunscreen, each meeting the same standard of UVA and UVB protection.

Mineral Sunscreen Creams

The mineral range uses zinc oxide as the active ingredient for UVA/UVB protection. Zinc oxide sits on top of the skin as a physical barrier and deflects UV radiation from the moment you apply.

These formulas use non-nano zinc oxide, meaning the particles are large enough that they do not penetrate the skin barrier, making them well-suited to sensitive skin, children, and reef environments.

Clear SPF Sprays

The clear spray range delivers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection across SPF 30 and SPF 50. The sprays are free from chemical propellants, using compressed air and a bag-on-valve system instead of traditional aerosols.

Free from oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens, the cans are made from recyclable materials and can be recycled again after use.

Both ranges are enriched with Vitamins C and E. Sun exposure generates free radicals, which are unstable molecules that damage skin cells.

Vitamins C and E are potent antioxidants that neutralize these free radicals, protecting the skin from oxidative damage and premature aging. Sun care infused with skincare, all year round.

Broad Spectrum Sunscreen - Frequently Asked Questions

Broad spectrum means the sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays cause sunburn. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin, contributing to premature aging and long-term cellular damage. A broad spectrum rating confirms protection from both.

Yes. A sunscreen without broad spectrum certification may only protect against UVB rays, leaving skin exposed to UVA radiation. Broad spectrum sunscreen is the standard recommended for daily use.

The mineral creams use zinc oxide as the active ingredient for UVA/UVB protection. Zinc oxide sits on top of the skin and deflects UV rays from the moment you apply.

The SPF sprays use chemical sunscreen actives, which need to be rubbed in and absorbed to activate. Both carry broad spectrum certification. The right choice depends on your skin type, preference, and how you like to apply.

Reapply every two hours during sun exposure, and immediately after swimming or sweating. Water resistant formulas have a time limit, so reapplication is essential for sustained protection.

Yes. The mineral creams use zinc oxide, which is approved under Hawaii Act 104. All formulas are free from oxybenzone and octinoxate, so they can be used and brought into Hawaii.

Yes. SPF sprays always need to be rubbed in after application for them to offer full SPF protection. Applying without rubbing in reduces coverage significantly.
